Police are investigating two shootings in three days in Greenacre and Punchbowl, saying they could be connected while reassuring the community that these are not random attacks.

On Sunday, around 10.15pm several shots were fired into three cars at a home on Roberts Pd, Greenacre. This is the same home where a 31-year-old man was arrested on Friday afternoon in a major police operation after shots were fired on a Punchbowl street.

“Two of the three cars had two projectiles in them but no one was injured,” acting Bankstown Police Superintendent Chief Inspector Darren Sly told The Express.

“There was one gentleman in the house but he was not hurt.

“We are leaning towards the possibility that Sunday night’s shooting is linked to the one on Friday where a man was arrested in Greenacre in a police operation.

“That man was questioned and later released without charges.

“This investigation is run by Campsie Police as we were only helping them.

“In relation to Sunday’s shooting, we are doing everything we can to find those responsible and assure the public that these are not random shooting.

“We believe the parties are known to each other.”

FRIDAY’S SHOOTING

On Friday afternoon, Campsie police backed by other heavily armed units, cordoned off Roberts Rd, Greenacre, in a major operation where they arrested a 31-year-old man.

Police had earlier been called to the park just after 3pm after shots had been fired.

A man was also assaulted at the Viola St park in Punchbowl and treated.

“It is not confirmed if the two shooting incidents are linked at this stage,” Campsie crime manager Detective Acting Inspector Tony Johnston told The Express.

“The shooting incident at Punchbowl appears to be targeted.

“However NSW Police Force and in particular Campsie and Bankstown PACs are committed to targeting firearm related crime and related violence and will continue to investigate and target those individuals identified as being involved in this type of activity.

“Police are working hard to identify the persons that may be involved in both instances and we encourage members of the public who may have information or may have witnessed either events to contact Campsie or Bankstown police stations, or alternatively to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

“Following inquiries, a 31-year-old man was arrested at a home on Roberts Rd, with the assistance of officers from Bankstown Police Area Command and specialist resources,” a Campsie Police spokesman said.
