SOMETIMES all you need to get through the week is a cheesy, greasy burger and luckily you don’t have to travel far in Sydney’s southwest to get your fix.
Here are seven of the best places in Canterbury Bankstown to get your burger on.
1. MISS AMERICA’S POP UP-DINER, RIVERWOOD
By day, Miss America’s Pop Up Diner is an unassuming cafe, but at night it transforms into a retro diner serving up drool-worthy 8-storey high burgers.
Miss America’s has taken a leaf out of In-and-Out Burger’s book, and paid homage to the diner burger. A stethoscope is on hand for those who want a side of the heart attack fries that come with bacon, cheese and crispy shallots.
Location: 210 Belmore Rd, Riverwood
Hours: Friday and Sunday nights from 6pm
Details: Miss America’s Pop Up Diner
2. BARLOW AND CO, EARLWOOD
New kids on the block Barlow & Co are championing the slow cooked burger. It takes 16 hours to create the restaurant’s signature dish, the Ironbark Smoked Brisket — inspired by Texan-style cooking and hugged in a milk bun.
This baby will set you back just $10, or $14 if you want the Brisket Plus — the 16-hour ironbark smoked brisket with onion rings, chipotle popper and raclette.
Location: 156 William St, Earlwood
Hours: Tues-Thurs 3pm-9pm, Fri-Sun 11am — 9pm
Details: Barlow and Co
3. BURGERS ANONYMOUS X HOPSTIX, CAMPSIE
Vietnamese food and American style burgers combine at Burgers Anonymous X Hopstix. The Heisenburger is double sirloin beef patty, double cheese, crack bacon (aka double-smoked, triple-glazed bacon), lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles topped off with B.A Sauce.
Location: Shop 15/5 Mackinder Street, Campsie, Clemton Park Shopping Village
Hours: Mon-Thurs, 11am-3pm and 6pm-10pm, Fri-Sun 11am-10pm
Details: Burgers Anonymous X Hopstix
4. MOODI’S, BANKSTOWN
If you want a burger fix but don’t want to go the whole hog — try Moodi’s. The cafe, created by Diet Doctor Moodi Dennaoui puts a lot of nutritional thought into their burger. The Moodi’s uses beef bacon, homemade relish and wholemeal buns. Goes well with a side of sweet potato fries.
Location: Shop 3/69 The Mall, Bankstown
Hours: Mon-Fri 8am — 6pm, Sat-Sun 8am — 4pm
Details: Moodi’s
5. BASEMENT BREWHOUSE, BANKSTOWN
You know you’re in the right place when you get asked what type of burger bun you’d like — “milk, brioche or potato?” Try the Chicky Babe (karaage chicken, slaw and wasabe mayonnaise), the Zorba the Greek (7-hour pulled Victorian lamb shoulder, halloumi, butter lettuce, red onions, parsley, roasted peppers and tzatziki) or just for this month — the Maple May (Cape Grim beef pattie, Swiss cheese, butter lettuce, crispy bacon, Spanish onion and maple aioli). Can’t decide? Get the trio of sliders for $16.
Location: 8 Greenfield Parade, Bankstown Sports Club
Hours: 11.30am — 12pm all week
Details: Basement Brewhouse
6. THE BURGER GARAGE, BELMORE
The Burger Garage is a women built, women owned and women operated burger bar, and these women know their burgers. Drool over the double fried chicken dunked in hot sauce or the pig out burger with slow cooked pork and homemade slaw.
Location: 104 Kingsgrove Rd, Belmore
Hours: 6am — 10.30pm all week
Details: The Burger Garage
7. SYDNEY’S WINGS AND THINGS, BANKSTOWN
A burger list in Sydney’s southwest wouldn’t be complete without a camel burger. Apparently it takes just like chicken, or maybe it’s beef? Anyway the halal Sydney Wings and Things is the place to try them.
Location: 151 Canterbury Rd, Bankstown
Hours: 5pm-12pm Tues-Sun
Details: Sydney Wings and Things
