Robert Steele: Tributes flow after fatal Canterbury Rd, Roselands crash

Family and friends have paid tribute to a 36-year old NDIS support worker who tragically lost his life in a car crash in Roselands.

Family and friends across multiple states have remembered Robbie Steele, the 36-year old NDIS support worker who tragically passed away in a fatal car crash on Monday at Roselands.

The well-loved man received many tributes on his Facebook page, with his friends and family remembering his high-energy, joy, sense of humour, and love for music and the clubbing scene.

From Mt Druitt in Sydney, all the way to Canberra, Mr Steele left a strong impression on the people who knew him best.

Nathan Higgins is the manager at the Civic Pub in Canberra, where Mr Steele previously worked as a bartender, and manager, and remembered him as one of a kind.

“He was a bright and bubbly guy,” Mr Higgins said.

Joshua Cicchini wrote on Facebook: “A good soul, gone too soon …. Never forgotten brother, thank you for the memories”.

Anthony Charles John remembered amazing nights they enjoyed in Canberra, along with Mr Steele’s cheery face, gorgeous smile and dimples, infectious laugh, warm friendship, and kind heart.

“You were one of a kind. May you be resting easy now in heaven as our hearts break that you have gone. RIP, Big Fella,” he posted.

A fan of dance music, and ARQ nightclub in his younger years, Mr Steele also had a stint as a DJ, under the name DJ Boofta.

An ex-flame Will Capri-Chandler remembers finding out they were better friends than boyfriends.

“We grew up together living our best lives in ARQ, dancing till sunrise most weekends thought out the entire 00s and most times lived out of each other’s pockets,” Mr Capri-Chandler wrote.

Mick Wearn remembers playing absurd word games, and Mr Steele’s instinct to stick up for marginalised communities.

“What I enjoyed most about Robbie was the way he‘d stick up for people against homophobia, his quick wit and strong words that shut down haters,” Mr Wearn said.

Bec Hudson, Mr Steele’s cousin, has started a GoFundMe to help Mr Steele’s mother pay for the funeral he deserves.

“Robbie was an amazing human and loved everyone,” Ms Hudson wrote. “This is so heartbreaking. Even if it’s only $1 every cent counts to help his mum. I don‘t want her to have to worry about finding the money herself.”

At the time of writing, $5220 has been donated.
