Relief for Revesby Heights locals after Telstra confirms cable fix

Telstra has said it will fix the cable problem at a Revesby Heights post, which one resident says could endanger lives.

Telstra said it appears to be a temporary fixed which has not been followed up and completed properly.

Following our call out to first Ausgrid — a company supplying power to the area — and then Telstra, it appears the problem at the Cnr of Centaur and Donovan Ave, Revesby Heights, will be fixed.

It was not the power line but the cable which is the problem.

“Our team inspected the site … and confirmed the cable belongs to Telstra not Ausgrid,” an Ausgrid spokesman said. “We have notified Telstra about the cable.”

A resident said “the electrified power line is quite low in some areas, it’s potentially very dangerous, if the rope gives way, I’d say life threatening.”

However, a Telstra spokesman told The Express it appears to have been a temporary fix that has not been followed up and completed properly.

He said it was difficult to determine how long the temporary fix had been in position but said Telstra would take the necessary steps to repair and secure the cable.

“Our focus at the time was on keeping our customers connected, unfortunately in this case we should have gone back and completed the repairs,” he said.

A concerned resident, who did not want to be identified, said it seems the electricity conduit attached to the power pole has come off and was bowing, causing the power line to sag considerably.

“In turn, rope has been used to raise the height of the sagging line in order to prevent cars from being electrocuted,” he said.

“I understand that it’s been like this at least last year.

“The line is located above a public carpark spot that’s heavily used by locals.

“You don’t need to be an electrician to know that something is not right.

“Luckily no-one has been injured as the carpark can be surprisingly busy at times.

“The area needs to be cordoned off and the matter rectified urgently in order to prevent injury or loss of life.
