While Canterbury-Bankstown Council reviews developments approved along the Canterbury Rd corridor, two more large-scale projects for the area are planned.

Development applications have been submitted to the council for a 14-storey unit block at 46-48 South Pde, Campsie, which includes 68 apartments and a four-level carpark with three basement levels.

The $17.5 million development is 50m from the Campsie train station, and along the corridor for the new Sydenham-to-Bankstown Metro line.

Also within the corridor, at Lakemba, are plans for a primary school just 500m from Lakemba station on Croydon St. The school would cater for 350 students and include 12 classrooms.

There were nine public submissions against the school.

The two projects came after council administrator Richard Colley announced in July that the council would review developments approved by the former Canterbury Council along the Canterbury Rd corridor.

Mr Colley said the council had approved developments “well in excess of the height and scale” recommended by the Canterbury Residential Development Strategy.

There are also two major Roselands developments proposed just outside the corridor.

A $7 million proposal for 20 affordable townhouses of two and three storeys has been lodged.

The one, two and three-bedroom townhouses would replace three existing houses on 47-51 Chapel St and have 40 off-street parking spaces.

Nearby, plans for a $5 million double-storey boarding house with 25 rooms at 265-267 King Georges Rd have also been submitted.

At Tuesday’s council meeting in Bankstown, Mr Colley is expected to announce a new steering committee to guide the review of the corridor.

The committee would be made up of council officers, and Department of Planning and RMS staff.

If formed, the steering committee would conduct an audit of all recent development applications from the gazettal of Canterbury Local Environmental Plan 2012 and all planning proposals from 2012 onwards.

Among other measures, the committee would review the Sydenham-to-Bankstown Urban Renewal Strategy, which had previously included 36,000 new dwellings along the rail corridor.
