Richie's tough choice

BACHELOR finalist Olena Khamula says if she does win The Bachelor, she would find it hard to leave Sydney for love.

“I love Greenacre, I love my western suburbs. I grew up here so it’s hard to picture me moving away from home,” the 23-year-old said.

Last Thursday, the former Bankstown Girls High School student was given a red rose, signalling her ascension to the top three of the Channel 10 reality show.

But after Perth bachelor Richie Strahan visited her family in Greenacre during home visits, some hard-hitting questions were asked — mostly by her ex-professional boxing father.

“My dad was priceless, I was cracking up when I saw him boxing with Richie,” Khamula said.

“To me, my dad’s a teddy bear but when it’s a guy, he susses them out and gives them the look like ‘if you ever hurt my daughter ...’,” she joked.

“But they don’t want me to move to Perth.”

The make-up artist has been portrayed on the show as the most reserved of the women, but Khamula says: “I’m a little bit more outgoing than what I’m like on the show.”

She also ruffled feathers on episode 13 by daring to admit that she didn’t love camping.

“I don’t think any girl I know likes camping,” she said.

“They might give it a go, but they would never go again.

“They chucked me in there and I just went ‘this is not for me’.”

In the same episode, Khamula caught Strahan off guard by asking him what he would do if her parents didn’t like him.

“I just tried to take control of the conversation to see if he’s right for me,” she said.

“It’s a compromise at the end of the day.”

The finale of The Bachelor will air on Thursday at 7.30pm.

No matter the result, Khamula seems excited about the future.

“I’m an adventurous person so I’m happy with whatever comes my way,” she said.

“You have to have fun with this kind of stuff.”

Khamula has recently signed to Chadwick model agency and has had seven years’ experience doing everything from catwalk to catalogue shoots.

When asked what her plans were after the series ends, the Ukrainian-born beauty knew precisely.

“I’m going to start watching Bachelorette,” she said.
