ALMOST $2 billion will go towards continuing work on the Sydney Metro South West project, revealed in the State Budget today.
The funds are one of several major infrastructure investments across Sydney’s southwest, with the State Government highlighting a major focus on metro services and arterial road upgrades as part of its cash bonanza.
NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet revealed $1.9 billion will be invested in the Sydney Metro South West project in this Budget, which will link Chatswood to Bankstown.

Mr Perrottet said a record investment in infrastructure projects was to ensure the development of a “well-connected transport system” across the southwest, linking roads, rail and buses to help get residents get home sooner.
The major commitment to increasing transport options in Sydney’s southwest comes as Transport Minister Andrew Constance sings of a $14.4 billion public transport fund across the state.

Roads Minister Melinda Pavey revealed $11.6 million will also be committed towards planning upgrades for Heathcote Rd, including widening the Woronora River Bridge and road widening between Holsworthy and Voyager Point in the next year.
Ms Pavey said the investment into planning upgrades for Heathcote Rd was an effort to decrease travel times for commuters.
“We are delivering substantial benefits allowing commuters to spend less time in traffic and more time doing things they love,” she said.
