Mt Pritchard: Critical incident declared as man dies following fatal crash on Dartford St and Horton St

Police have launched a critical investigation after a man died following a midnight motorcycle police chase in Sydney’s southwest.

Police have launched a critical investigation after a man died following a midnight motorcycle pursuit in Sydney’s southwest.

A NSW Police spokeswoman said an officer was patrolling the intersection of Maxwell Ave and Elizabeth Dr, Mt Pritchard, when they saw a motorcycle drive through a red light at 12:01am.

Police activated lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the rider but he crossed to the wrong side of the road and no pursuit was called.

A short time later, the motorcycle hit a truck at the intersection of Dartford St and Horton St, Mt Pritchard.

NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived but the 38-year-old man died at the scene.

A crime scene was established and is being examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

A critical incident team from Bankstown Police Area Command will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the crash.

The investigation will be subject to an independent review, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
