A Chester Hill man who allegedly choked a woman before attacking a male and female police officer who came to her rescue will remain behind bars.

Hussein Zreika appeared in Bankstown Local Court via audio visual link in relation to the incident in a Chester Hill unit on November 7.

According to police statements tendered to the court, between midnight and 3am, Zreika had assaulted 25-year-old Jessica Fallon, including choking her.

Police allege that when they arrived at the property, Zreika charged at officers and struggled when they tried to arrest him.

It will be alleged a male constable suffered a deep cut to his right forearm when he was pushed into a porcelain sink, causing it to break.

Zreika was then chased by the injured officer and a female leading senior constable, before he was arrested.

The woman had soreness to her arm/elbow while the police officer needed surgery for a deep laceration.

Zreika has been charged with wounding a police officer executing duty recklessly as to actual bodily harm, assaulting a police officer in execution of duty causing actual bodily harm, two counts of resisting officer in execution of duty, taking person intending to commit serious indictable offence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentionally choking person without consent.

According to the police prosecutor, Zreika has a criminal record, with previous convictions for affray and warrants issued for his arrest.

The prosecutor said it was a serious offence and of a violent nature.

His application for bail was refused when his case was heard on Friday, November 15.

The case has been adjourned until January 15.
