Campsie Police has swooped swiftly to arrest a man over the shooting and assault of another male inside a Belmore tattoo shop, which is undergoing renovations.
Campsie police crime manager Detective Chief Inspector Paul Albury said a 27-year-old man had presented himself to Canterbury Hospital at 11pm on Wednesday with severe head injuries and a gunshot wound to his leg. “The man was severely assaulted by a group of men in a targeted attack,” Det Chief Insp Albury told The Express.
He said they have arrested a 25-year-male, who worked in a nearby shop, at 12.20pm on Thursday, following intensive inquiries.
“We are continuing to investigate the serious assault and shooting and appeal for any witnesses to come forward,” Det Chief Insp Albury said.
“The man’s whole face has swelled up and he had surgery on his left ankle.
“He is in a stable condition.”
Det Chief Insp Albury said the injured man was known to police.
He said the owner of the tattoo shop had no license to trade and police will object to the Security Licensing & Enforcement Directorate (SLED) on his attempt to obtain a licence.
“The owner of the tattoo store said he is not operating but our inquiries found out he was and we are working with SLED to prosecute him,” Det Chief Insp Albury said.
“The man was assaulted by around five people at a Burwood Rd tattoo shop which is under renovation and still be to be officially opened.
“We are pursing different avenues of investigation into the assault and shooting.”
