Man allegedly tried to use skimmed credit cards at NAB ATM in south west Sydney

POLICE arrested a man who had allegedly tried to make a number of fraudulent transactions at a NAB automatic teller machine (ATM) on Haldon Street, Lakemba.

Around 2:45pm on Wednesday, February 13, Campsie Police were alerted to a number of attempted fraudulent transactions conducted at a NAB automatic teller machine located on Haldon Street, Lakemba.

These attempted transactions occurred using cloned and skimmed credit cards. Credit card cloning is a technique whereby someone obtains your credit card details, copies them onto a bogus card and begins using the credit card.

Police immediately responded to these alerts and located a 43-year-old man outside of the NAB bank.

After he was arrested, police searched him and allegedly found four cloned cards in his possession.

He was taken to Campsie Police station where he was charged on four counts of possessing identity information and attempted dishonestly obtain financial advantage and two counts of deception.

BELMORE: A teenager handed himself in to the Bankstown police station early Thursday morning in connection with alleged stalking incidents in Belmore in December. He attended the station, a day after Campsie Police released CCTV footage of a man at Belmore station and requested public assistance to identify him. Acting commander of Campsie Police Detective Chief Inspector Paul Albury said the 17-year-old Belmore male had attended the station, with a relative, to hand himself in. About 11pm on Saturday, December 8, a 31-year-old woman left Belmore railway station and was walking on Leylands Pde, when she noticed a man walking closely behind her and she ran away to safety. Early on Monday, December 10, police said the same woman was grabbed from behind as she walked along Leylands Pde. The man allegedly covered the woman’s mouth and attempted to drag her towards a unit complex, before she escaped and called for help. Police said CCTV cameras show that a second woman was also followed along Leylands Pde just before the attack. The teenager was charged with common assault; and stalking/intimidation with intent to cause fear of physical or mental harm. He was given conditional bail to appear in a children’s court on Thursday, March 7.

GREENACRE: Two Greenacre men were arrested by Australian Border Force (ABF) for allegedly being a part of an organised criminal syndicate and importing 1.87 million cigarettes and 12 tonnes (1200kg) of loose leaf tobacco, worth more than $700 million on the market.

The products were allegedly found hidden in a container from China, said to contain beverages and toilet rolls. The men were arrested when ABF officers raided a warehouse in Greenacre on Thursday, February 7, with the tobacco products worth nearly $16 million in duty evasion. “ABF officers located 1.87 million cigarettes and 12 tonnes of loose leaf tobacco, which represents a total evaded duty of $15.9 million,” an ABF statement said. The maximum penalty for tobacco smuggling is 10 years’ imprisonment and/or a fine of up to five times the amount of duty evaded.

PUNCHBOWL: A man has been charged over his alleged role in a $1.45m fraud and money laundering scheme after a special police squad executed a search warrant at a home on Waratah St, Punchbowl, on Wednesday, February 13. “During the search, officers located documentation relevant to the investigation, cash, an electronic control device, a Rolex watch, laptops, mobile phones, and cocaine,” a police spokesman said. Police will allege in court the man, who is alleged to have links to the former Burwood chapter of the Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang, applied for two mortgages to the value of $1.35 million and a $99,000 truck lease, using fraudulent payslips. He was charged with three counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception and knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime. Police will also allege the man dealt with $154,992, which was the proceeds of crime. He was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday, March 6.

NARWEE: Campsie Police arrested a 43-year-old man who had allegedly threatened a 33-year-old male with a pair of scissors before punching him in the face, causing damage to his teeth. Police said around 7.40pm on Saturday, February 16, a 33-year-man was walking on Graham Rd, Narwee, when he was allegedly approached by the 43-year-old who demanded money When the man refused, the old male is alleged to have produced a pair of scissors and then punched the other man in the face. The older man, who fled to a nearby house after the younger male called the police, was arrested there. He was charged with armed with intent, assault occasioning, actual bodily harm and demand money with menace.

BANKSTOWN: Police stopped a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old male on Monday, February 11, around 1.25pm and allegedly found green vegetable matter and cash inside. The 18-year-old male was arrested and charged with drug supply, drug possession, and deal with property proceeds of crime. He was granted conditional bail to attend Bankstown Local Court on the March 6.

BANKSTOWN: Police are appealing for information to locate the driver of a vehicle who failed to stop after knocking two pedestrians — with one woman suffering a fractured skull — in Bankstown last month. About 5.40am on January 12, police said two women, aged 22 and 25, were walking south on Cottam Ave, Bankstown, towards Canterbury Rd — close to parked vehicles — when they were struck by a car travelling south. Police said after hitting the pedestrians, the white Nissan Tilda, which was missing its front left hubcap, failed to stop, and continued travelling on Cottam Ave, turning onto Canterbury Rd. The two pedestrians were taken to Liverpool Hospital and the younger woman was released a short time later. However, the older woman received treatment for a fractured skull.

BANKSTOWN: Bankstown Police’s domestic violence unit, and specialist groups will speak at a seniors safety workshop at Bankstown Sports Club on Monday, February 25, from 9am-1pm. The workshop is organised by Canterbury Bankstown Council. Other presentations will be given by NSW Elder Abuse Helpline and Resource Unit, Seniors Rights Services, Fire & Rescue NSW and Bankstown Women’s Health Centre.
