A “horror scene” unfolded at a southwest Sydney apartment block after a man threatened to cut his neighbour’s head off and threw a cup at his face during a violent drug-fuelled outburst.

Luke Taylor pleaded guilty to reckless wounding, intentionally damaging property and stalking and intimidation at Bankstown Local Court after he told his neighbour he was “going to murder you” inside a Belmore unit block in November last year.

Agreed facts state a conversation between the neighbours where Taylor was called “flukey lukey” caused the 35-year-old to get aggressive and throw a cup at the victim which left him bleeding from the right cheek.

“The victim felt terrible … and described it like a horror scene,” the facts state.

Taylor threw a knife and plate at the victim before he left the apartment and punched his right fist through the window “about six times, causing it to smash and completely destroy”.

Facts state Taylor continued to yell out death threats to the victim while NSW Ambulance treated the pair for their injuries.

“Mate I am telling you when I get up there motherf***er I am going to chop your fucking head off c**t. I will f**king kill you,” facts state.

“When Taylor was getting taken out of the ambulance vehicle, he said ‘I am going to the psych ward. When I come out I am going to cut your f**king head off’.”

Taylor’s lawyer said his client was in a “drug induced psychosis” fuelled by ice during his arrest and acknowledged his behaviour was “extreme”.

While he said Taylor had been proactive in seeking treatment for his mental health while in custody, he made “no submission for any sentence to be serviced in community”.

“He sees the events much clearer and recognises the harm perpetuated to the victim,” he said.

Magistrate Shane McNaulty said Taylor’s criminal history was “unfortunately repetitive” with the “common theme” either drugs or violence.

“Its questionable what came first, the drugs or the psychiatric condition,” he said.

“The reality is Mr Taylor, is that drugs have got the better of you.”

Mr McNaulty said Taylor’s mental health and drug use was a “complex problem” and insisted “only time will change when you decide I have had enough”.

“What you and I are saying makes a good deal of sense but you get out of custody and you put something in your system and all that good common sense goes out the window,” he said.

Taylor was sentenced to an aggregate term of imprisonment of 19 months, back dated to his arrest on November 23 last year, with a non-parole period of 10 months.
