John Saade charged over Chester Hill police pursuit

A man and woman accused of leading police on a high-speed chase in a Corolla through southwest Sydney allegedly threw a sawn-off shotgun out the the car.

A man and woman have been charged following a police pursuit in Sydney’s southwest during which police allege drugs and a firearm were thrown out of a car.

Bankstown police attempted to pull over a silver Corolla travelling on Orchard Rd in Chester Hill about 11am on Wednesday when it allegedly failed to stop, sparking a chase.

As the vehicle continued along Kamira Ave, police allege drugs were thrown from the car and shortly afterwards, as it turned onto Koonoona Ave, a firearm was thrown out a window.

The police chase ended due to safety concerns and officers seized a .22 sawn-off shotgun and an amount of methamphetamine.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Corolla was found on Edmondson Crescent in Carramar.

Police arrested 29-year-old John Saade and a 27-year-old woman.

Mr Saade was charged with multiple offences including police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, supply prohibited drug, possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, possess unregistered firearm, possess loaded firearm in a public place, not keep firearm safe, acquire ammunition, acquire prohibited firearm, possess prescribed restricted substance, deal with proceeds of crime, and not disclose identity of driver/passenger.

The Merrylands man was not required to appear at Bankstown Local Court today, which heard he intended to enter pleas of not guilty to the charges.

Bail was not applied for and it was formally refused. The matter was adjourned to September 17.

The woman was charged with possess prohibited drug and deal with proceeds of crime and was granted bail to appear in Bankstown Local Court on September 23.
