A LOVE of strawberry milk has spurred Janelle Halil onto baking stardom and a place in the books.
After the 22-year-old’s strawberry panna cotta recipe won the hearts and tastebuds of judges in Sydney’s Undiscovered Baking Legend competition, Ms Halil’s face will feature on the front cover of Sydney’s 2017 Yellow Pages.
Her secret ingredient?
“It’s actually a really weird concoction,” the Kingsgrove hobby-baker said.
“I am really obsessed with strawberry milk, so I wanted to make a dessert version. I used strawberry Nesquik.”
Her recipe won’t be top-secret for much longer. It too will be printed on the front cover of the directory, alongside a snapshot of the work done by the Country Women’s Association of NSW.
This year, the cover is celebrating the achievements of NSW’s largest volunteer women’s organisation, their love of food and the finest bakers in each area.
“The CWA are such a good organisation,” Ms Halil said. “They are all about the love of food and bringing people together. Food is a universal language now, everyone can connect over food.”
The first 2017 Yellow Pages books rolled out in Sydney on Saturday.
