Nestled on the side of bustling Canterbury Rd is My Sweet Boutique – a waffle food truck that has called Hurlstone Park home for the past year.

On Sunday for World Nutella Day, the waffles on wheels paid homage to the star of its menu – by offering free Nutella mini jars along with the usual Nutella waffle sliders, Nutella smashed waffle jars and Nutella milkshakes.

The toothsome chocolate spread has been a staple on My Sweet Boutique’s menu since the truck burst onto the market scene in 2012 and later when it was a foodie institution in Marrickville.

Its biggest seller, the Metro, features Nutella layered with waffles, vanilla bean ice cream, fresh strawberries and salty pretzels.

Another darling of the menu is the Bombah – waffles, salted caramel ice cream, American peanut butter, crushed Tim Tams and, of course, a wicked spread of Nutella.

On Valentine’s Day, My Sweet Boutique will mark one year since it first parked in Sydney’s southwest opposite Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL.

To celebrate, the truck will be serving up a special lovers’ waffle – paired with Cherry Ripe, fresh strawberries, Belgian chocolate and chocolate obsession ice cream, from 6-11pm on January 16.

The food truck’s community focus is pretty sweet, too.

On the counter you’ll find a tip jar that goes solely to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

My Sweet Boutique founder Elisabeth Amalfi also has taken part in the Random Acts of Sweetness project.

It’s all part of a grander plan to “sweeten up Canterbury Rd”.

“The main purpose is to build a destination for the local community so they can come and enjoy the sweets and atmosphere,” she said.

The buzz is definitely there.

Fairy lights, casual crates to sit on and an occasional DJ all add to the experience.

To see for yourself, head to My Sweet Boutique on Thursday to Sunday from 6-11pm.
