A man has been arrested at Sydney International Airport almost four months after police say a clandestine drug lab exploded in Sydney’s west.
Emergency services were called to an address on Station Rd in Auburn about 6pm on June 25, following reports of smoke coming from a unit.
Officers attached to the Auburn Police Area Command evacuated residents as a precaution, with no injuries reported.
Police said members of Fire and Rescue NSW entered the unit a short time later and found a clandestine drug laboratory had exploded.
Following a search of the unit, police seized numerous plastic bags containing a crystalline substance, believed to be methylamphetamine, and a crime scene was established.
After months of what were described as extensive investigations, police arrested a 27-year-old man at Sydney International Airport about 8pm last Friday.
The man, Guan Lin Chen, was taken to Mascot Police Station, where he was charged with taking part in the manufacture of a large commercial quantity of a prohibited drug.
Chen faced Parramatta Local Court on Saturday, when he was remanded in custody after not applying for bail.
He is expected to reappear in Burwood Local Court on November 27.
