A man has faced court after he allegedly sexually assaulted two teenage girls he met online in Sydney’s southwest.

The 25-year-old, of Greenacre, appeared through his lawyer at Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday after being arrested and charged last month.

It followed an investigation by the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes squad, after police received reports in June that two girls, aged 14 and 15, had been sexually assaulted by a man.

Police allege that the man sexually assaulted both girls on separate occasions in June 2020 after meeting them online.

Following inquiries, the man attended Bankstown Police Station on August 18 and was arrested.

He was charged with five counts of intentionally sexually touching a child between 10 and 16 years and intentionally performing a sexual act with a child.

He was granted conditional bail and appeared at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday.

The prosecutor confirmed the matter had been taken on by the Director of Public Prosecutions but would be dealt with in the local court.

He will be required to enter pleas when he returns to court on September 15 the court heard.
