A man’s body has been found in a southwest Sydney river, with police now appealing for the public’s help to find out how and why he died.
The man was reported missing by a family member at 6pm on Saturday, March 21, after he failed to return home from work.
Bankstown Police Area Commander Superintendent Murray Reynolds said they were treating the man’s death as suspicious at this stage and that they needed the community’s help to piece together the man’s final movements.
The man is believed to be that of a 48-year-old from Ambarvale, and his body was discovered at 4pm on Monday at Lake Gillawarna, Georges Hall.
“We are very keen to speak to the occupants of the vehicles who pulled into the Georges Hall boat ramp carpark and may have seen the man in the early hours of Saturday morning,” Supt Reynolds said.
“We are awaiting the results of a post mortem examination, so at this stage, the man’s death is being treated as suspicious until we can rule that out.”
He said the investigation, being handled by Strike Force Grancho, is piecing together the man’s last movements.
Supt Reynolds said initial inquiries revealed the man caught a taxi from Queen St, Campbelltown, to a boat ramp on Raboul Rd, Georges Hall, about 2.40am on Saturday, March 21.
On Wednesday, detectives released CCTV of the man exiting the taxi outside a petrol station on the corner of Raboul Rd and Henry Lawson Drive, Georges Hall.
The vision shows a grey sedan arriving at a carpark on Raboul Rd with two occupants who later leave the car near the boat ramp and walk in the direction of the man.
A second vehicle, a dark coloured SUV, is also seen arriving and exiting the car park.
Investigators are appealing to the community for information to identify the men and anyone who may have seen the vehicles.
