THE construction of Bankstown CBD’s first five-star environmentally sustainable office block — the $55 million Flinders Centre is set to be a game changer for the city.
Bankstown Sports Club’s impressive commercial development, under construction on the corner of Restwell St and Greenfield Parade will provide eight floors of office space, when it opens in mid-2018.
The club’s chief executive Mark Condi said he anticipated 1500 people would be working in the Flinders Centre when fully operational.
The ground floor will feature a retail outlet, reception and lounge area, lifts to the offices and a third access point to Bankstown Sports Club.
Level one will be leased by UFC GYM and Flinders Centre Early Learning School and level two will include Bankstown Sports administration offices and training facilities. There are also plans for a rooftop bar and restaurant.
“The Flinders Centre will be the only development with a five-star NABERS and five-star Green Star building in our CBD, and our aim is to entice interest from significant companies wanting to relocate their operations and headquarters to Bankstown,” Mr Condi said.
Office space has been sorely lacking in Bankstown and Mr Condi said the Flinders Centre was a game changer for commercial development.
“There is a significant amount of development in the Canterbury-Bankstown area, but most of this development is residential,” he said.
“It is important in a thriving city like ours, to have a balance between residential and commercial development”.
Mr Condi said the State Government’s investment in the Sydney Metro rail line, made Bankstown a lot more accessible to Sydney and the Flinders Centre was part of the club’s diversification strategy, looking at alternative revenue streams.
“These people will need to eat and drink, and use our hotel and conference facilities while they’re here,” Mr Condi said.
South West Bankstown Chamber of Commerce CEO Wally Mehanna said the building would be an icon the city could be proud of.
“It’s going to add financial value, active employment and strengthen the capability of our region,” Mr Mehanna said.
The Flinders Centre is a gold sponsor of the chamber’s gala dinner on November 10.
A Canterbury-Bankstown Council spokeswoman said it was particularly encouraging to see additional office space being built in Bankstown CBD as it reinforced Bankstown as a major regional business centre.
