VOTERS are fed up with the policies and records of the two major parties, judging from a sample of residents the Express spoke to last Friday.
The Express spoke to four voters and the apathy to voting is also evident, with only the threat of being fined for not doing so, forcing citizens to make a choice for this Saturday’s election.
Long-time Labor supporter Wayne Lawrence said he no longer backs the ALP and instead has already cast his vote for the One Nation Party.
“I have always been Labor for more than 40 years but this year I have already voted for One Nation,” Mr Lawrence, 60, told the Express.
“I know one of the mayor parties are likely to get in but if everyone votes like me, there will be a shake up.
“Earlier Labor used to be for the working man but now it seems that the Liberals are more for the working man and Labor are not.
“The major parties promise the world but once they get in, they break their promises.
“My main issues are public transport, border security, health and education.
“I am not racist but I believe that suburbs like Chester Hill where I lived for many years, is not safe anymore. We used to leave the doors unlocked and nothing happened then. Now even with the doors locked, we are afraid.”
Revesby Seafoods cafe owner Bill Karamalis said the rising cost of electricity and food is the main reason his business is struggling.
“I have been running this cafe at Revesby for more than 30 years and employ five people,” he said.
“But when I finish paying the bills and the wages, I am often left with nothing to take home. I have to work seven days a week and I am 77 years old.
“Everything is expensive with power bills alone costing me $1400 each month.
Leeanne Millard, who has been working for many years in the cafe, said she is undecided on which party to vote.
“I have not made my mind because all parties are bad,” Ms Millard said.
“The biggest issues for me are the very high cost of living while wages are not moving at all.
“There is a big difference between the lower and rich classes today.”
“Electricity is another big problem with our bills coming to more than $100 each month and that’s just for two people.
For first time voter Hassan Disdat, corruption is something he is worried about.

“The government is corrupt and I think the government cares more about money than the people,” Mr Disdat, 19, said.
“I am undecided whom to vote for and would rather not vote but then I will be fined. What I want is people to help each other.”
