Woman freed after car plunges down embankment near train line
AN ELDERLY woman was hospitalised after the car she was driving plunged 15m down an embankment, crashed through a fence, hit a tree and landed near the train line at Panania this afternoon.

An elderly woman was hospitalised after the car she was driving plunged 15m down an embankment, crashed through a fence, hit a tree and landed near the train line at Panania this afternoon.
The crash forced the closure of the T2 Airport line in both directions for a short time when the accident occurred just before 2pm.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said fire crews from Revesby, Bankstown and Lakemba as well as police responded to reports that a car gone down a 15m embankment on the edge of railway lines near Carson St, Panania.

“The car wasn’t on the rail lines but it was on railway grounds and it had gone through a fence. There were some branches on the track,” the spokesman said.
Police reported that the sedan drove through a fence, went down an embankment and hit a large tree, which then fell onto the railway tracks.
The elderly female driver was trapped in the car and firefighters performed a vertical rescue, removing the woman and handing her over to NSW Ambulance staff.
An ambulance spokesman said the woman was taken to Liverpool Hospital.
Police said she did not appear to have suffered serious injuries but was taken to hospital to be checked as a precaution and for mandatory testing.
Investigations are continuing and anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
A Sydney Trains spokesman said the T2 line was closed in both directions for less than an hour while emergency workers freed the driver.
Westbound trains were affected and trains into the city were travelling at a reduced speed.
The line is now fully operating but passengers should allow additional travel time.
