A motorist, who has been disqualified from driving until 2058, has been charged after he crashed a car in Yagoona on Monday, November 12.

The driver of a black Holden Astra had allegedly tried to escape from highway patrol officers before the car hit a pole in another street in Yagoona.

Police said a senior constable was taken to Bankstown Hospital with a wrist injury as a result of the arrest. The officer was hurt during the foot pursuit.

Police said the man was charged on Tuesday with driving while disqualified, subsequent offence, driving in a manner dangerous to the public, subsequent offence, negligent driving, not giving particulars to police, custody of a knife in a public place, first offence, and entering enclosed lands.

Later on Tuesday, he appeared at Bankstown Local Court where bail was refused to reappear at the same court on Thursday.

A police spokesman said that just before 2pm on November 12, emergency services arrived at an address on Waruda St, Yagoona, for an unrelated matter.

“On arrival, officers from Bankstown Traffic and Highway Patrol witnessed a black Holden Astra hastily leave the scene,” the spokesman said.

“The Holden was located a short time later on Gould St, Yagoona after hitting a pole.

“The 27-year-old male driver fled on foot and was arrested nearby.

“He was taken to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.”

The spokesman said a 27-year-old female passenger was taken to Bankstown Hospital with a minor head cut.

Police later found out the driver had his driver’s licence disqualified until 2058.
