A rideshare driver has been charged over a car crash that killed a father and daughter in Sydney’s southwest earlier this year.
In a statement, NSW Police said a Toyota sedan had collided with a Toyota ute on Milperra Rd in Milperra about 7.40pm on May 26.
Police said the force of the crash rolled the sedan, trapping the driver and passengers.
Two of the DiDi rideshare sedan’s passengers — a 41-year-old man and a 12-year-old girl — died at the scene.
Emergency services were called to the scene and treated another one of the sedan’s passengers — a 10-year-old boy — before taking him to Westmead Children’s Hospital.
The 52-year-old male driver of the sedan was also treated by paramedics at the scene and later taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Police said the 19-year-old driver of the ute only sustained minor injuries and was treated before being taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory testing.
About 6pm on Thursday, four months after the crash, the sedan driver was charged at Bankstown Police Station with two counts each of negligent driving occasioning death and causing bodily harm by misconduct in charge of a motor vehicle.
He was granted bail and is set to face the Bankstown Local Court on November 6.
At the time of the incident, aDiDi spokesman confirmed the sedan driver was using the company’s platform.
“We are aware of an incident which occurred during a DiDi trip in Sydney on the evening of Sunday, May 26, resulting in the death of two individuals,” the spokesman said.
“Our hearts go out to those involved and to those impacted by this incident, and will provide support wherever possible.”
