THE Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety will be holding a community forum at Bankstown Sports Club on Friday, March 1, from 1.30-4pm.

Commissioner Lynelle Briggs will attend the forum where a limited number of people can make a brief statement.

The commission will hold meetings around the country, having begun its work in Adelaide last month.

The Royal Commission was established last October, by the Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove with Richard Tracey and Ms Briggs AO the commissioners.

“Community forums will be another way that members of the public may engage with the commission,” the commission said.

“Forums will be held in a number of locations around the country.

“They will be an opportunity for members of the public to hear about the work of the commission and to offer their ideas on the challenges and strengths of, and the opportunities to improve, aged care.

Registration is required by February 27 and the commission said guidelines will be provided to all registered speakers.

There will also be a chance to give written feedback to the commission and to talk to commission staff.

Call for protection for whistleblowers in aged care sector

The Royal Commission cannot resolve individual disputes or complaints and cannot order a care provider or person to take particular action or pay compensation.

However, the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission may be able to assist in this situation because it is the complaints agency for aged care services.

The commissioners are required to provide an interim report by October 31, 2019, and a final report by April 30, 2020.
