More carparking unveiled for Canterbury Bankstown
Canterbury Bankstown residents will get some parking relief with 23 new spaces being added to the busy Albert St shopping strip in Punchbowl.
Parking is one of the biggest problems for motorists in Canterbury Bankstown who can expect some relief with the council spending more than $3 million to add more spaces.
This week, 23 carparking spaces including two disability spaces were unveiled on the Arthur St shopping strip at Punchbowl.
The $450,000 upgrade at Arthur St car park is one of the 11 car parks upgraded under the council’s $1.2 million program for 2018/2019.
Meanwhile, the NSW Government has promised to add 400 car spaces at Revesby train station.
In addition to the new carparking spaces, footpaths, driveways and kerb ramps were added to Arthur St, along with median islands, asphalt resurfacing and line markings.
Canterbury-Bankstown has 187 car parks, including five multistorey facilities, with the council being one of the few in NSW to offer free parking.
“It (Albert St) is one of our most used car parks, so increasing the number of car spaces was important to meet the demand,” Mayor Khal Asfour, who acknowledges the frustration of motorists trying to finding parking in the city, said.
“The construction of this extension is an important step in council’s plans to provide more parking in Canterbury-Bankstown’s town centres, which is close to businesses, transport and services.”
