Campsie: Riad Bassal and Mohammad Ameera charged after police stop car at Canterbury Rd

A western Sydney man has fronted court after police stopped the Rav4 he was travelling in and allegedly found a hidden Glock, drugs and more than $15,000 in cash.

One of two men charged with multiple drug and firearm offences after police stopped a four-wheel drive at Campsie was on bail over previous offences.

At Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday, the court heard 20-year-old Riad Bassal’s bail was revoked yesterday. He was also charged with unlawful possession of a mobile phone.

On Tuesday, Bassal and Mohammad Ameera, 18, were charged after police allegedly seized firearms, drugs and $15,200 in cash in Bassal’s Toyota RAV4, for which he was unlicensed to drive, when police stopped the car at the corner of Duke St and Canterbury Rd.

Bassal was charged with supplying drugs and possessing $15,200 in cash believed to be the proceeds of crime, 28.7g of cocaine, 2.6g of cannabis, possessing a 40-calibre Glock pistol with the serial number scratched out and for failing to store it safely after police allegedly found it stored behind the airconditioning controls of the car.

Police allege in court documents the Lakemba man also had ammunition and another Glock with the serial number wiped out, 50 Zanax tablets and for providing police false details under the name Ryan Naser.

During subsequent police raids of their homes at Croydon St, Lakemba, and Matthews St, Punchbowl, they allegedly found an extra $11,500 in cash, 200 rounds of ammunition and steroids.

Punchbowl man Ameera, 18, was charged after allegedly supplying and possessing 792g of cocaine and supplying 84g of methamphetamine at Punchbowl on Tuesday.

Ameera’s lawyer Fadi Abbas applied for bail and it was granted on eight conditions including a $10,000 surety and that his client not be absent from home unless he is in the company of his parents.

Bassal did not appear in court today but Ameera appeared via audio visual link.

Bassal and Ameera will return to Burwood Local Court on July 8 when pleas will be entered.
