THE home of the Bulldogs, Belmore Sports Ground, will be at the heart of a sprawling sports and recreation precinct under a masterplan before Canterbury Bankstown Council.

The near 17ha complex will be transformed to a more livelier place featuring improved sporting and entertainment facilities, with the council wanting input from locals to make it the best venue for years to come.

The precinct study area includes Terry Lamb Reserve, Belmore Bowling Club, Belmore Sports Ground and Peter Moore Fields, Lillian Lane, Tobruk Ave carpark and the Belmore Station entry.

Parks will be a part of the new Belmore sports and recreation precinct.

The study area will be bound by Redman Pde in the north, Leylands Pde and Edison St in the south, Loch St in the east and Burwood Rd in the west.

The masterplan will include improved connections between Campsie and Belmore railways stations, improved Belmore Sports Ground and associated fields, cafes and better public amenities.

Mayor Khal Asfour said the council wants to build something special and iconic for the residents to enjoy for many years.

“We want residents, businesses and sporting groups involved in this process from the outset and help create something which can be enjoyed for generations to come,” Mayor Asfour said.

“So I am encouraging them to have their say, to tell us what they’d like to see established. I anticipate similar levels of feedback as the recent Parry Park master plan project.

“Everyone knows Belmore is the home of the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and some really great cafes and shops but, once we’re done, everyone will know it for the lively area it is.

“We want this precinct to be the green heart of Belmore that caters to our diverse community.”

The council will be hosting drop-in sessions for residents until June.

Consultations are to be completed by December 31.
