A family member has revealed the horrible moment she heard a bang before she saw a two-year-old face down on the floor three storeys below their unit, with a measuring tape seen dangling from the balcony later in the afternoon.
Auburn police and NSW Ambulance were called to Crawford St, Berala about 12.45pm following reports a boy fell from an apartment building.
The ambulance spokesman said the young boy was treated at the scene for an injury to the head and was transported to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
It is understood the toddler’s family did not see him on the balcony until they heard a “big bang” and saw him “flat on his stomach”.
The child was unresponsive for 15 minutes until the ambulance arrived.
“We were too scared to touch him,” a family member said.
A measuring tape about 3m long could be seen dangling from the balcony where the boy fell.
A neighbour and mother-of-three did not witness the incident but said it was scary because she also lived on the second floor on the other side of the block with her children aged six, three and four months.
“I’m so careful,” she said. “It’s difficult for the mum.”
A NSW Ambulance spokesman confirmed the boy had arrived at hospital.
A police spokeswoman said investigations continued and there were “no apparent suspicious circumstances – (it is) being treated as an accident”.
