Police have launched an investigation after a popular southwest Sydney cafe known for its high-profile NRL customers was broken into.

Just after 4am on Saturday, March 1, CCTV cameras capture the moment a lone figure forces their way into Jobel’s Cafe.

The beloved cafe has been operating in Belmore for almost two decades and is well known for being a popular hotspot for Canterbury Bulldogs players and fans alike.

It comes as Belmore businesses revealed the struggle to keep their trades alive following the closure of the T3 Bankstown line to make way for Sydney Metro upgrades last year.

Among them, Jobel’s Cafe owner Josephine Nakhoul said a combination of no parking and the train shutdown had killed foot traffic, including her cafe.

However this year’s NRL season is expected to bring a huge boost to the local Belmore economy, business owners and community organisations previously told this masthead.

The Bulldogs will take on the Gold Coast Titans in Round 2 on Sunday, March 16, while the club’s NRLW side will play at the Belmore Sports Ground for the first time in a clash with the Canberra Raiders in Round 8.

The matches are expected to attract up to 15,000 visitors and inject more than $250,000 into the local economy.
