A senior western Sydney dentist has been accused of raping and producing a number of child abuse videos of an underage girl.
Muhannad Al-Wehwah is also accused of choking a teenager and “snorting lines of coke” with a group of girls after one of them – masquerading as a 21-year-old – sent what have been described in court as “stripper-type” photos to him on Snapchat.
The 36-year-old, who is the principal dentist at The Dentists @ Belmore, was refused bail when he faced Bankstown Local Court on Thursday.
He has pleaded not guilty to a number of sexual and drug-related charges.
Al-Wehwah was initially charged with possessing and supplying a prohibited drug, and possessing and attempting to prescribe a restricted substance.
After allegedly breaching his bail, he was further charged with sexually touching a child between the ages of 10 and 16, aggravated sexual assault, choking a person without consent, possessing and producing child abuse material, two counts of stalking or intimidation to cause fear of physical harm, common assault, and being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.
In documents tendered to court, police allege a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old girl arrived at Al-Wehwah’s Greenacre home in the early hours of September 18 this year.
Between 4am and 5am, police allege Al-Wehwah, armed with a metal pole, threatened to harm the two girls.
It is alleged Al-Wehwah violently assaulted the older girl, choking her, and raped the younger girl.
He is also accused of producing and possessing a number of child abuse videos of the 15-year-old girl, depicting her in erotic poses at the time of the alleged incident.
The incidents are alleged to have occurred while Al-Wehwah was subject to bail conditions imposed following alleged drug offences involving one of the same girls.
In April, Al-Wehwah was arrested and charged after allegedly consuming illegal drugs with four girls at the back of his home.
Police claim Al-Wehwah took a “particular interest” in one of the girls, with the pair allegedly seen entering and exiting his bedroom before he is accused of demanding the girls hand over their phones.
Police later searched his unit and allegedly seized drugs.
The court heard the April meeting had taken place after Al-Wehwah struck up a conversation with a person with the username “AM” on social media.
On Thursday, during a bail application, Al-Wehwah’s lawyer told the court this person was one of the girls pretending to be a 21-year-old stripper, and that she had sent the accused “stripper-type” photos on Snapchat.
He also said the allegations against his client had differing “strengths and weaknesses”.
“The applicant was provided with a totally different age. She also went by other names and aliases,” Al-Wehwah’s lawyer said.
However, magistrate Shane McAnulty said it was “of little concern” what Al-Wehwah was told online.
“The criminal activity is having people over who he met online and snorting lines of coke,” Mr McAnulty said.
“Then (he) engaged them in sexual activity, which was recorded.
“I wouldn’t get too hung up on the minutiae of what their ages were online.”
Appearing via video link, Al-Wehwah requested to be placed under strict house arrest so he could work and continue to take care of his ailing mother.
But Mr McAnulty rejected his application, saying the risk of Al-Wehwah offending on bail was too high.
Mr Al-Wehwah was remanded in custody to face Burwood Local Court on November 27.
He also has a hearing listed in Bankstown Local Court in April 2025.
