A man who was issued a lifetime ban from Woolworths was caught masturbating on a train after stealing more than $1000 worth of energy drinks across western Sydney.

Walid Soueissi, 45, pleaded guilty to wilful and obscene exposure, travelling without a valid ticket and entering or leaving a station not at a designated entry or exit after he was caught masturbating on a train in Bankstown on February 13.

In documents tendered to court, police state while the majority of Soueissi’s past offences are property related, “due to his drug use his behaviour is becoming increasingly concerning”.

Facts state CCTV captured the moment Soueissi “removed his erect penis and began masturbating” after boarding a train at Bankstown station.

“Soueissi masturbates for about four minutes, there are no other passengers on this carriage,” the facts state.

Walid Soueissi appeared before Bankstown Local Court on Thursday.

“He appears to look out, stop masturbating and hide while the train travels past a station and then appears to re-engage in masturbating as the train travels away from the platform.”

The 45-year-old left the train before he was arrested at his home on March 7 after police reviewed CCTV footage.

Soueissi also pleaded guilty to three counts of entering enclosed land, larceny and three counts of shoplifting less than $2000 after targeting various Woolworths supermarkets from 2022 to 2023.

Facts state Soueissi walked out of a Woolworths in Campsie with a trolley filled with 20 Red Bull cartons worth $1440 after the supermarket giant issued a lifetime ban from all stores in 2019.

Seven months later, Soueissi stole 18 boxes of V energy drinks and 144 cans of Red Bull worth a total of $525 from a Woolworths in Riverwood.

In an earlier incident in May 2022, Soueissi filled a Woolworths trolley in Seven Hills with 30 four-packs of V energy drinks and 42 four-packs of Red Bull energy drinks adding up to $690 before fleeing the store.

A month later he stole eight boxes of 30 cans of Coca-Cola worth more than $300 from Woolworths Bass Hill in the Bass Hill Plaza.

Soueissi’s lawyer said while his client acknowledged his serious public offence, he argued it fell “towards the lower end” as he “had not performed a sexual act towards someone else” on the empty train.

Magistrate Michael Barko argued he would have sentenced Soueissi to jail time if there were witnesses in the train carriage and said he needed to grow up as he’s “45 years of age, not 19”.

“A person who drinks that amount of energy drinks wouldn’t need drugs … he was trying to get a fix,” Mr Barko said.

Soueissi was fined a total of $880 for the three counts of entering enclosed lands, convicted and sentenced to an 18 month Community Correction Order for larceny and ordered to pay $1440 payable to Woolworths Campsie.

For his two shoplifting offences in 2022, his previous conditional release order and conditional corrections order were revoked and he was convicted and sentenced to a 12 month community corrections order.
