Two people have been charged after allegedly fleecing an elderly woman of more than $100,000 and stealing her jewellery, cash and banks cards in Sydney’s southwest.
An investigation was launched under Strike Force Artal 23 following reports an 81-year-old woman had been defrauded of more than $100,000 in July.
Following inquiries, a 43-year-old woman was arrested at a Lucas Heights school on October 16.
She was taken to Sutherland police Station, where she was charged with two counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.
The Narwee woman was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Bankstown Local Court on November 30.
Following further inquiries, a 48-year-old man was arrested at Narwee about 6.30am on Tuesday.
He was taken to Campsie police Station, where he was charged with fraudulently rendering false expense account and dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.
Police will allege in court that the man and woman, who are known to the 81-year-old woman, allegedly stole jewellery, cash, and her bank cards before fraudulently using the banks cards to spend more than $100,000 on clothes, food, and other items.
It will be further alleged the pair coerced her out of her unit at Mascot and illegally collected rent on the property.
The Narwee man was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday.
