A teenage boy has fractured his arm after getting trapped in a stormwater drain in Bankstown.

NSW Ambulance responded to reports of the boy being trapped in a drain on Chapel Rd and Macauley Ave about 10.55am on Tuesday.

NSW Ambulance Inspector Craig Watkins said the teenager “slipped and fell in the storm drain while trying to retrieve a ball, which meant he couldn’t climb out”.

“Our Special Operations Team paramedics, in collaboration with Fire and Rescue NSW, were able to make contact with the boy and begin treating his fractured arm before safely extricating him,” he said.

“This is an unfortunate incident for the patient, but it has had a positive outcome given the danger that stormwater drains can present.”

The teenager has been taken to Bankstown Lidcombe Hospital in a stable condition.
