Boy, 14, charged over alleged Wiley Park sexual assaults

Police have charged a boy, 14, from Lakemba for allegedly indecently assaulting three women, after family and friends identified him from the police video footage.

A top cop from the Campsie PAC is thanking the community for their efforts in helping identify a teenager who allegedly indecently assaulted three women at Wiley Park.

The arrest and charge comes after police crime manager Detective Chief Inspector Paul Albury released CCTV footage of the youth early on Thursday, who they believed could help with their inquiries into the alleged assaults on Shadforth St, Stanlea Pde and Cornelia St on July 10 and 15.

The CCTV footage was obtained from Wiley Park train station.

Insp Albury said the boy, 14, was from Lakemba and arrested at 6pm on Thursday.

“Family and friends of the young man recognised him (from the video footage released by police) and, as a result, the family brought him to the police station,” he said.

“The three women are traumatised and these types of incidences impact on the feeling of safety among the community.

“We are pleased with the support from the public for helping us to solve the case promptly which makes it safer for the community.”

Police will allege in court the boy indecently assaulted three women in separate incidents on public streets at Wiley Park.

The teenager was charged with three counts of sexually touching another person without consent and granted conditional bail to appear before a children’s court on August 22.
