A new world-class training hub for the Sydney Roosters has been approved.
The facilities, which will be part of the new Sydney Football Stadium, will include an exclusive players’ lounge and hydrotherapy rooms.
The $10.6m Sydney Roosters Centre of Excellence has been approved by the NSW Government.
The club is yet to provide any interior shots of the facilities.
However, it will include across its 2,200 sqm a gym and wrestle area, club dining facilities, a players’ lounge, a lecture theatre, hydrotherapy and medical treatment rooms.
The base will be at the eastern mezzanine of the stadium.
“The Sydney Roosters are part of the fabric at Moore Park and I’m sure current and aspiring players, fans and club officials will be ecstatic to have their future home cemented in the Chooks’ heartland,” Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes said.
“There will be opportunities for schools and local junior football teams to visit the centre and enjoy a Roosters rugby league experience.”
Minister for Sport Natalie Ward said $5.7 million in funding has been committed in a bid to boost grassroots and women’s participation in the sport.
“This outstanding sporting centre will complement the new SFS, which will be the Sydney Roosters new home ground, along with a village precinct delivering new open space for the community and stadium visitors.”
Sydney Roosters CEO Joe Kelly said: “The SFS is our home and we consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to have secured a permanent base within this new world-class stadium.”
The Sydney Roosters Centre of Excellence is expected to be completed in late 2022.
Construction of the 42,500-seat SFS is underway, with the anticipated opening of the stadium to be ahead of the 2022 NRL Grand Final.
News of the Centre of Excellence comes as work is progressing at their arch rival’s new base at Heffron Park. The new home of the Rabbitohs will cost an estimated $58m and will include training facilities, administration areas, along with a community gymnastics centre, an indoor sports centre and a cafe.
