The impressive reading achievements of school students from across the state were celebrated in style last week at the 2018 NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge acknowledgment ceremony.
Medals were awarded to the winners of this year’s challenge by NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Tuesday at Holroyd School, which caters for students with intellectual and/or physical disabilities.
Ms Berejiklian congratulated the Merrylands-based school’s students at the ceremony for achieving a 100 per cent participation rate in this year’s challenge.
“Well over 8 million books were devoured this year with many hundreds of those enjoyed at this school alone,” she said.
“Holroyd students are receiving 15 medals today, reflecting their having completed the challenge in every year from years 3 to 9, which is a fantastic achievement.”
The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge was launched in 2001 to encourage young people to read more often and more widely.
Since then it has grown in leaps and bounds to include more than 302,000 students from more than 2500 schools reading for leisure and pleasure.
This year’s challenge was proudly supported by major partner Modern Teaching Aids, supporting partner Dymocks Children’s Charities and media partner NewsLocal.
