A number of suburban Sydney and regional NSW Target stores will either shut down or convert into Kmarts in the coming months as Target looks to cut costs and protect staff.
The budget-friendly department store had already closed and converted some stores across the state last year but a new list confirms additional stores are on the chopping block in 2021.
“We understand these closures will affect a lot of people in the Target community and we appreciate your patience and understanding during these challenging times,” the company said in an online statement.
“We are committed to providing every opportunity for redeployment for our team members who will be affected by these changes.”
Target stores in Bankstown, Roselands, Broadway, Leichhardt, Burwood, Chatswood, Hornsby, Parramatta, Merrylands, Charlestown, Wollongong, Canberra Civic, Belconnen, Albury, Griffith, Port Macquarie and Taree are among the locations which will remain open.
“We are proud to have a rich history as an Australian company and we are committed to serving you, our valued customers, now and into the future,” the company stated.
“We have many Target stores which remain unaffected by today’s announcement and you can continue to shop with us online with the same ease and convenience.”
