PLANS for a bike and pedestrian path that connects the Shire’s key destinations are now on display for public consultation.
The Sutherland to Cronulla Active Transport Link’s first stage will connect Sutherland and Kirrawee stations, as well as businesses and residential areas from Eton St to Oak Rd.
The proposed path will also connect Sutherland Public School, St Patricks College, Minerva School, Kirrawee Fauna Place Childcare Centre, Pollard Park and Glencoe St.
Part of the proposed paths will run along President Ave and the State Government will add lighting, pram ramps, pedestrian and cyclist refuges, signage and landscaping.
It is part of plans to make the Shire more walkable as residential development increases, particularly in Kirrawee with the significant Brick Pit development’s completion.
In an email to local residents Transport for NSW’s precinct and corridor planning director Tom Grosskopf said the active link’s first stage would connect transport interchanges, schools, residential areas and business precincts outside the rail corridor.
“The future stage (linking) Kirrawee to Cronulla will make greater use of the rail corridor while connecting key destinations like transport interchanges, Sutherland Hospital, beaches, parks and recreation areas, and shopping precincts,” Mr Grosskopf said.
“We have been working closely with Sutherland Shire Council, Roads and Maritime and Sydney Trains to refine the proposed route and connect key destination points.”
Transport for NSW is now accepting submissions on the first stage from Sutherland to Kirrawee until November 4.
Residents can view plans at transport.nsw.gov.au or in person at Sutherland Library, Miranda Library or Cronulla Library.
