A woman who went on an ice-fuelled rampage through a Sydney carpark and slashed a police officer with a pair of garden scissors has been released from jail.
Courtney Bell, 38, was high on ice when she slammed her Mitsubishi Pajero into several cars at the Eton St car park in Sutherland on September 13 last year.
Onlookers were horrified as Bell repeatedly rammed cars at random – including some with drivers trapped inside – before hitting a police truck and lashing out at an arresting officer, who required four stitches after she cut him with a pair of secateurs.
Bell remained in custody after she was arrested at the scene until April 24, when she was sentenced by Magistrate Clare Farnan at Central Local Court to a total jail sentence of 12 months and 19 days to be served in the community.
The sentence, which expires on May 12 2020, applies to charges of menacing driving, using an offensive weapon to commit an offence, assaulting a police officer, and reckless or furious driving.
Bell was also sentenced to an 18-month community corrections order for possessing 2.2g of ice, but received no conviction or penalty for possessing 0.56g of cannabis or drug driving.
The Sydney mother was disqualified from driving for three years in relation to the reckless driving charge and will also be required to abstain from illegal drugs and attend a rehabilitation program mandated by the Community Corrections District Office.
