Coronavirus: 292 COVID-19 cases in South East Sydney Local Health District
Sydney’s southeast has recorded by far the highest number of cases of coronavirus in the entire state, with hundreds testing positive to COVID-19 in the Sutherland Shire, St George, Bayside and Randwick.

Almost 300 people across Sydney’s southeast have been diagnosed with coronavirus, recording the highest numbers of infection of any region across the entire state by far.
A staggering 292 people in the South East Sydney Local Health District have tested positive to COVID-19 – the highest number of cases in any region across NSW.
The next highest number of cases is 209 in Sydney’s northern suburbs.
Sydney’s southeast also recorded the second-highest number of coronavirus tests, with 10,543 tests conducted to northern Sydney’s 12,550.
A spokeswoman told the St George Shire Standard and Southern Courier that the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District would not provide the numbers of people diagnosed with coronavirus and the number of diagnosed patients in each hospital across Sydney’s southeast.
“Locations where COVID-19 cases live, work or have visited do not pose any ongoing risk to the public,” the spokeswoman said.
“Publishing private details, such as the location of individuals diagnosed with COVID-19, is a breach of patient privacy and serves no public health benefit.”
The health district incorporates public hospitals in the Sutherland Shire, Georges River, Bayside and Randwick local government areas including Sutherland Hospital, St George Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital, Royal Hospital for Women and Sydney Hospital.
As few as four, but as many as 16 cases were contracted locally in the Sutherland Shire, Georges River, Bayside or Randwick areas.
Only the South East and South West Sydney Local Health Districts declined to provide any further transparency for their regions.
A whopping 34 cases emerged from one wedding in Stanwell Tops earlier in March, just beyond the SESLHD’s southern boundary.
One Cronulla man in his 50s and a female employee at Bed Bath n Table at Menai Marketplace are the only other publicised cases in the region, with no additional details being provided.
