The Tears For Fears classic is one of several songs on Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s 80s Spotify playlist, which also features iconic tracks by Fleetwood Mac and David Bowie.

The St George Shire Standard asked the Shire’s PM what classic rock hit of the 70s, 80s or 90s he would ask the DJ to play at Gymea’s dirtiest, wildest, most glorious basement bar – the Vinyl Room – and he was only too happy to oblige.

The playlist includes Let’s Dance by the incomparable Bowie, Every Breath You Take by The Police, Mad World by Tears For Fears, Dance Hall Days by Wang Chung and Gypsy by Fleetwood Mac.

You can’t help but wonder if there’s a message about wrecking, undermining and sniping neatly concealed in the inclusion of The Go Go’s’ Our Lips Are Sealed, or ABC’s Poison Arrow.

Mr Morrison has also revealed a surprising penchant for Madonna with the addition of Vogue and Express Yourself.

Other iconic tracks that made the cut were nostalgic favourites such as Depeche Mode’s Just Can’t Get Enough, Don Henley’s Boys of Summer, Blondie’s Heart of Glass, and Take On Me by a-ha.

The PM has even included a Vinyl Room classic for a Friday night on the stickiest dance floor in the Shire – The B52’s’ Love Shack.

There’s even a track for the surprise prime minister’s abrupt entry into the nation’s history – Simple Minds’ Don’t You Forget About Me.

However, there was just one Australian track on the entire playlist – Wa Wa Nee’s Stimulation.
