A man has been charged with allegedly kidnapping an elderly relative from an aged care home in Sydney’s south and spiriting him over the state border to Victoria.

At 8.30pm on November 20, 2019 police allege a man attended an aged care facility in Sutherland and accompanied an 83-year-old man known to him away from the premises.

Sutherland Shire police were notified and commenced inquiries before the elderly man was found in a Melbourne hospital two days later and eventually returned to the aged care home.

Further inquiries led detectives to arrest a 41-year-old man at a Mangrove Mountain home on the NSW Central Coast on Tuesday.

He was charged at Gosford police station with a domestic violence offence of detaining a person to obtain advantage and refusing to provide the necessities of life, causing an injury to health.

Police will allege in court the younger man failed to provide adequate medical care to the older man after taking him from the facility.

The younger man was granted conditional bail and will appear at Sutherland Local Court on January 15.
