A man has been arrested after a dramatic late-night siege on a suburban street in Sydney’s south.
Just after 9.30pm St George police responded to reports of a domestic violence incident at a home on Forest Rd in Lugarno.
When officers arrived at a scene they discovered an injured elderly woman and a man refusing to come out.
“An 89-year-old woman was found at the home suffering cuts to her hands and torso,” a NSW Police spokeswoman said.
“A male occupant refused to open the door and a perimeter was established.”
The riot squad and other specialist resources attended the scene before the man was dramatically arrested just before midnight.
“A 51-year-old man was arrested at 11.40pm after a short struggle and transferred to Kogarah police station,” the NSW Police spokeswoman said.
“He was then transferred to St George Hospital for assessment.”
Police are yet to lay any charges over the alleged domestic violence incident.
