Jessica Prsa, 26, was charged with malicious wounding after police say she stabbed the young guard in the back with scissors while she was being held in the jail’s mental health unit.
The scissors were removed from the guard’s back without surgical intervention and an investigation is currently underway into how the inmate obtained the scissors.
The alleged incident occurred at 8.10am on August 31 – just over an hour before Prsa was due at Sutherland Local Court for a hearing on sexual abuse charges.
Court documents at Sutherland Local Court reveal Prsa was to appear before Magistrate Michael Connell charged with sexual touching without consent, carrying out a sexual act upon another person without consent, common assault and contravening a violence order.
“Between 6.40am and 6.55am on December 30 2019 at Sans Souci, Prsa did (allegedly) sexually touch (a person, who cannot be identified) without their consent,” court documents allege.
“Prsa also did (allegedly) carry out a sexual act towards another person without their consent.”
The alleged common assault pertains to a separate complainant, who is a female relative of Prsa.
A solicitor appeared on Prsa’s behalf at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday in relation to the malicious wounding charge and the matter was adjourned for two weeks.
Prsa’s Sutherland matters will be mentioned in court on October 26.
