A man who allegedly had a gun concealed in a toilet while he was subject to a firearms prohibition order was arrested at a suburban Sydney home in dramatic scenes involving heavily armed tactical police.

Hussayne Toby, 44, was wanted by police on a parole revocation warrant when specialist officers from the Tactical Operations Unit surrounded him at a Bexley home on Thursday afternoon.

Strike Force Raptor officers assisted by St George police conducted a firearm prohibitions order search of the home, where they allegedly found a Browning 9mm semiautomatic pistol hidden in a toilet and 36 rounds of ammunition.

The Arncliffe man appeared at Sutherland Local Court on Friday morning charged with possessing an unregistered and unauthorised pistol, possessing unauthorised ammunition, not keeping a firearm safely, and acquiring a pistol and ammunition while he was subject to a firearms prohibition order.

He was also charged with dishonestly possessing a white Audi sedan with a defaced unique identifying number in Casula on January 8.

His solicitor Hisham Karnib did not apply for Toby’s bail and told the court the Department of Public Prosecutions would take carriage of the case by the afternoon.

The matter will return to Sutherland Local Court for a plea to be entered on January 23.

Toby appeared briefly in the dock and smiled repeatedly at a female associate in the body of the court, who stared at him emotionlessly in response.

Two other men at the Bexley home aged 44 and 49 were spoken to by police but no additional charges were laid.

Baffled local residents shared photos and videos on social media of the raid, conducted in full view of the street before the sun went down.
