A Sutherland Shire community will unite for a dawn walk to raise funds for bushfire relief and clean up local beaches.
Cronulla cafe HAM has organised Walk From Darkness Into The Light at 5am on January 12 to support south coast communities devastated by the NSW bushfires.
The cafe is aiming to raise $20,000 from more than 1000 attendees after already raising $3500 via social media.
On their website, the business said the event would bring the community together for its struggling neighbours.
“The feelings of helplessness and conversations around fear and loss need to turn into action – but we can’t do it alone,” they stated.
The community is invited to meet at 5am at South Cronulla Beach to begin a walk and beach clean-up with a suggested $20 donation for NSW Rural Fire Service volunteer firefighters.
“We want to get as many local businesses, cafes, restaurants, gyms and residents to get involved as possible,” the business stated.
“We’ve got to get together as a community and drive hard to raise funds.”
Cash and card will be accepted on the day
Walk From Darkness Into Light begins at 5am on Sunday, January 12 at South Cronulla Beach.
