A doctor at a Sydney hospital has been charged with sexually assaulting a male patient he had diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease during a follow-up appointment at his home in Sydney’s south.
Fairfield Hospital doctor Leoncio Antonio Bello, 53, was charged with sexual touching after he allegedly masturbated the 28-year-old’s penis at his Brighton-Le-Sands home.
Police further allege Bello touched the 28-year-old man’s penis and perineum in a manner distinct from any medical procedure during a prior appointment at the hospital.
He has also been charged with prohibited drug possession after officers allegedly found steroids at his home.
His solicitor said Bello completely denied the allegations.
Magistrate Michael Love granted Bello bail at Sutherland Local Court with a $10,000 surety.
“(The facts allege) he was treating a patient and he advised the patient that they had a sexually transmitted disease,” Mr Love said.
“He then performed a physical examination which included touching the penis and applying pressure to the perineum.”
Bello then allegedly offered to further assist the patient before they met for a follow-up at his home.
“He asked the alleged victim to remove his clothing and there was some further touching of the penis and masturbation,” Mr Love said.
“The alleged victim attempted to get dressed and the accused asked him not to.”
Bello was required to surrender his passport and abide by a curfew as a condition of his bail.
He will return to Sutherland Local Court on November 26.
