Bryce Ellis: Caringbah drug dealer guilty, Kurt Howlett sentenced

He initially denied involvement but this week surfer and socialite Bryce Ellis came clean over his involvement in the dealing of cocaine across Sydney. It came as his co-accused was sentenced for acting as his drug ‘errand boy’.

A surfer who mingled with some of the Shire’s most glamorous influencers has admitted to supplying cocaine from his swanky south Sydney home.

Bryce Ellis, 28, was dealing cocaine across Sydney on a near-daily basis from his Caringbah base between December 2018 and the time of his arrest on July 25 last year, according to court documents.

Ellis had initially denied the charges but changed his pleas to guilty at the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday.

Ellis stood up in court in a white shirt and chinos as his lawyer entered pleas of guilty to two counts of supply prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis.

Twenty-seven other drug supply offences and one count of recklessly directing a criminal group have been withdrawn.

In the courtroom next door, his Woronora Heights co-accused, Kurt Howlett, 30, was being sentenced for dealing cocaine eight times in three months in Caringbah and Woolooware.

The arrest of the two men followed a seven-month investigation into cocaine supply across Sydney by NSW Drugs and Firearms Squad detectives.

Police allegedly uncovered 16g of cocaine, replica firearms, drug paraphernalia and $2300 cash at Ellis’ south Sydney home.

Ellis has also admitted to a charge of possessing an unauthorised firearm, which will be dealt with alongside the supply charges.

Automotive interior designer Howlett was yesterday described as Ellis’ “errand boy” by a sentencing judge.

The court heard Howlett acted as a drug runner in Sydney’s South to compensate Ellis for his own drug habit.

Howlett was sentenced to a 14-month intensive corrections order and 100 hours of community service.

Ellis has been committed for sentence to the Downing Centre District Court next month.
