A former council manager who was caught drink driving at nine times the limit for suspended drivers had lost her licence only weeks earlier – also for drink driving.

To make matters worse Amber Lukunic had her three-year-old son in the car with her at the time.

The 44-year-old caught the attention of police on March 27 when she was seen driving at 100km/h in an 80km/h zone on the Princes Hwy in Waterfall south of Sydney.

The Thirroul woman admitted she was a suspended driver before a breath test revealed a high range blood alcohol level of 0.182 – nine times the 0.02 limit for already suspended drivers.

She has pleaded guilty to high range drink driving and driving suspended and will be sentenced at Sutherland Local Court on May 28 after she completes the traffic offenders’ program.

Family and Community Services had to be notified after her three-year-old son was discovered in the back seat.

The 44-year-old is currently employed at Wisdom Homes in Gregory Hills as a landscape design team leader and was previously employed as a senior manager at Lend Lease and a project manager for Parramatta Park public domain at the City of Parramatta Council.

“She had left Thirroul and travelled to Menai to pick her three-year-old son up from childcare and was on her way home.” agreed police facts stated.

“Her reason for driving was that there was no-one else than could collect her child.”

Lukunic told police officers she had one glass of white wine with lunch and a sandwich, but police believed she was “well-affected” by alcohol when she was taken to Sutherland police station for a breath analysis.

“She had a strong smell of intoxicating liquor on her breath, she had watery, glazed eyes, her speech was slurred, and she was unsteady on her feet as she carried her son into the police station,” agreed police facts stated.

Lukunic lost her licence in February for three months for a low-range drink driving offence in Wollongong, but her traffic history reveals a string of prior offences that largely involve school zones.

Lukunic has previously been caught speeding in school zones three times in July 2015, August 2015 and March 2018.

She had also been fined for not stopping at a red arrow in August 2016.
