Alan Marshall: alleged Comanchero bikie sentenced for cocaine supply

A court has heard an alleged Comanchero bikie caught dealing cocaine and amassing tens of thousands of dollars cash was subject to a firearm prohibitions order and a court order for speeding at 140km/h in a 70km/h zone when he was busted.

Australia's Growing Drug Crisis

An alleged Comanchero bikie who dealt cocaine from his work van and kept a cash stash worth tens of thousands in his southern Sydney apartment was already subject to a firearm prohibitions order when he was caught out by police.

Alan Marshall, 34, has been behind bars at the Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre in Silverwater since he was found with 27.8g of cocaine on his body during his arrest in March.

The Brighton Le Sands man pleaded guilty to greater than indictable drug supply, dealing with crime proceeds worth $37,130 and prohibited drug possession after police raided his one-bedroom apartment.

Magistrate Peter Stewart also took a number of drug possession charges into account after police found 53.9g of testosterone in syringes and glass vials, 9.5g of Nandrolone, 9.4g of Trenbolone, 6.26g of Oxymetholone and 10.5g of Prasterone at Marshall’s unit.

“He has entered pleas of guilty to drug supply, but he told a psychologist the drugs were for personal use and the cash was personal savings,” Mr Stewart said.

“I’m not satisfied he has demonstrated remorse given the remarks about the source of the money and the reason for having the drugs.”

Mr Stewart sentenced Marshall to 18 months’ imprisonment with a non-parole period of 12 months, making him eligible for release on March 25 next year.

The court heard Marshall had struggled with an addiction to steroids for the best part of a decade, and had also struggled with opioid addiction after he was prescribed painkillers when he was shot in the arm some years ago.

He was also subject to a firearm prohibitions order at the time of his arrest.

“I’m unable to find he is unlikely to reoffend,” Mr Stewart said.

“It will rely on his ability to abstain from drugs upon his release.”

Marshall was also sentenced to an 18-month supervised community corrections order for the drug possession, which will commence at the conclusion of his prison term.

Marshall was also re-sentenced after he breached a community corrections order imposed in November 2019 for speeding at more than 140km/h in a 70km/h zone on a rainy night through the Airport Tunnel at Kyeemagh.

Mr Stewart imposed a new 18-month community corrections order which also mandates supervision and rehabilitation.

The court heard Marshall served 16 months in jail in early 2017 for assault causing actual bodily harm and was fined in October 2019 for drug possession.

Marshall’s business partner Harry Koupparis, 30, was arrested the same day and charged with supplying a commercial quantity of cocaine and a small amount of cocaine after police allegedly found 5.98g of cocaine in his undies.

A subsequent raid at Koupparis’ Arncliffe unit allegedly uncovered almost 900g of cocaine in a safe in his bedroom.

At Downing Centre District Court Koupparis pleaded not guilty to supplying 842.42g of cocaine – a commercial quantity – and supplying 5.98g of cocaine.

He will face a five-day trial beginning May 24.
